PLANNING – MONITORING – EVALUATION
Civil Engineering
ASM Ireland offers a large range of services for the Civil Engineering Industry. All stages of a projects life cycle are covered, from pre planning topographic surveys right through to post project evaluation. The use of our innovative UAV’s allow us to be the most cost effective solution on the market. To see how our services work click here.
Planning
Having up to date Aerial Photographs of major Civil Engineering Projects is a major advantage when it comes to planning. However the information that can be dereived in traditional aerial photographs is limited due to a lack of perspective and to only what you can see in them. The maps produced by ASM Ireland using high resolution photographs are different, not only do they allow visual information to be derived from the photographs but also the site is delivered to the Project Engineers desktop as a fully interactive 3D Model, the most comprehensive Topograhpic Survey can commission. This allows measurements in 3 dimensions to be taken directly off the model from the comfort of the office, and then imported into common programs such as AutoCAD where they can be used in the design process with relative accuracy of up to 5cm’s. This can improve the planning process and drastically reduce oversights in the design phase. Our 3D Maps have been used in early stage planning by a variety of experts, from Environmental Engineers, Hydrologists, Ecologists and Archaeologists, not to mention the main users Civil Engineers. Our services have been used in the construction of major State and Private Construction Projects.
Monitoring
When a project enters the Construction Stage monitoring is extremely important. Our surveys can be repeated quickly and are so cost effective they can be repeated often, allowing effective management throughout a projects duration. The speed and accuracy at which we produce topographic surveys allow Earthwork quantities to be accurately calculated throughout the construction process. A large range of other tasks such as project timelines, method statements or traffic management plans can be enhanced using our high resolution orthophotos. Our maps have assisted Construction Managers in avoiding costly oversights. We can also provide oblique angle photographs to enhance project monitoring and for use in marketing.
Evaluation
The flexibilty of our surveys allow the entire design of the project to be overlaid directly onto the recent orthophoto. This is extremely useful both during the project -where key planning decisions can be made more accurately and potential future problems can often be identified in advance of causing disruption to on site activities- and upon project completion where Post Project Reviews are now commonplace.
Accuracy
Relative accuracy , or the accuracy of distances between 2 points within the map area is generally up to 5cm’s. Absolute accuracy , the accuracy of our maps relative to the national grid is also up to 5cm’s using ground control points calculated using our mm accurate GPS systems. In general accuracy of the survey strongly depends on the flight height, lighting and wind conditions, availability of textures, image quality, overlap, and type of terrain. However we will ensure all these conditions are met before flying.
Wind Farm Planning
Wind Farms in Ireland are often placed in harsh isolated environments with poor access, surveying these areas can be incredible difficult, expensive and time consuming. ASM Ireland offers a service that allow Wind Farm Planners access to the entire site in high resolution on their desktop. Digital Terrain Models (DTMs) allow us to see beyond the noise of Trees and Buildings and allow accurate design throughout the site. Potential problems can be identified with ease at an early stage of a projects life and solutions identified quickly. Our Maps have been used to enhance the production Environmental Impact Statements or become the basis for Pre-Construction condition surveys, Peat Stability can be assessed by Hydrologists, the Ecology of the Landscape can be assessed more quickly and with greater accuracy due to the high resolution of our maps. 3D Surface Models can also be created to aid in Project Visualisations and Planning, and Contour maps can be created and utilised in the design phase. These are just some of the many benefits that have been found for our maps.
